Commemorating VJ Day
“The Fighting Man” for VJ Day
As you all know, this week commemorates 80 years since VJ Day (Victory over Japan on 15th August 1945).
My own father was sent to fight in Burma and India at the age of 18. That young, carefree lad eventually came home at the end of 1946.
There was no fanfare for him or his male and female comrades. The 14th Army was known back then as “The Forgotten Army”; and they certainly were.
The song I wrote, “The Fighting Man”, is about my father and his experiences; but it chimes so strongly with what happened to his comrades.
So please will you listen to this song and watch the video; please think of them all who made it home and also those who gave their lives.
